At the beginning of school an important element of the programme is the introduction of “survival” vocabulary which enables the students to feel more comfortable around the school.Your child will be bringing home a songs and rhymes book and a vocabulary book. You can add to the vocabulary book by writing the words in your child's first language to create a link with, and to maintain and strengthen, the first language. Research has shown that the stronger the child's first language the easier it is to learn another language. Since the sessions began the students have worked on getting to know one another and on familiarising themselves with the daily routines of school.There will be opportunities during the EAL class for your child to sit quietly and "read". If you have any books in your first language which you would like to donate to the EAL room for your child and others to use during that time the children would benefit from your generosity.
